Senior Living Options
So, what are the senior living options to consider?
Independent Living
An independent living scenario is one in which a community of senior adults 55+ are living in a residence and they are physically independent or need minimal care.
Residents are able to enjoy living in their own apartment while having access to services like the following.
- Prepared meals offered in a dining hall
- Housekeeping
- Scheduled activities for socialization opportunities with other retirees
Assisted Living
Assisted living communities often are similar in appearance to apartment buildings or hotels. A safe, caring environment is provided for seniors who have realized on their own or been advised by doctors or concerned family members that living on their own may no longer be feasible or safe.
In an assisted living community, options for the services such as bathing, dressing & grooming help, toileting assistance, escorting and medication management are available in addition to amenities like:
- Meals
- Laundry
- Light housekeeping
- Activities, classes and gatherings
Memory Care
Similar to assisted living facilities, memory care communities include focused attention on memory-related disorders.
- The primary goal of these communities is providing a safe and supportive environment for your loved ones while working to offer fulfillment in their daily activities.
- Throughout each day residents are gently guided to the amenities they prefer.
- These communities are specifically secured to prevent residents from getting lost or wandering outside the property; this way the residents are able to move around freely throughout dedicated open spaces.
Residential Care Homes
A residential care home is a house located in a residential neighborhood that has been licensed to provide supportive care for seniors who need to be in a small group living environment because of the level of care they require.
- These homes can have anywhere from 6 to 20 residents, living in either shared or private bedrooms, with shared kitchens, common areas and bathrooms (some private rooms do have their own bathrooms).
- Residents receive one-on-one help with daily living activities and have the added benefit of a much smaller caregiver-to-patient ratio than an assisted living community.
